Plankton Energy is seeking a Director of Operations to oversee procurement construction and asset management. This is an exciting for an experience solar professional to join a growing C&I solar developer, owner-operator, and fund manager as we scale.
Plankton Energy is a leading commercial and community solar development firm based in Brooklyn, NY with a nationwide project footprint. We focus on developing distributed solar projects located on the built environment; serving large real estate investment trusts, private equity real estate owners and other real estate owners across multi-family, industrial, self-storage, office, education, healthcare and houses of worship. We are turnkey developer and owner; we originate, develop, design, finance, install, and own and operate. Our mission is to increase access to and participation in the clean energy economy.
We have raised our own captive private equity yield co., Plankton-Gratitude Yield Co LP (“PGY”), to own our projects. Fund I has reached a final close and will support $40 million - $50 million of solar projects that will reach NTP in 2025 and 2026 and beyond. We launched this fund in partnership with Gratitude Railroad, an asset manager with a focus on market rate impact investments in funds and direct investments.
Our team has developed, financed, and installed over 100 MW of distributed energy projects and arranged financing for over $5 billion of utility and energy projects. Lead the construction and operations teams with four direct reports
· Lead selection and oversight of subcontractors and construction subcontracting including establishment and enforcement of best practices
· Establish and continuously improve scalable, standardized processes and digital systems for monitoring, work management, reporting, and vendor oversight
· Lead the construction team in reviewing schedules and scope of work.
· Review and approve project construction schedules for feasibility and accuracy.
· Identify and implement opportunities to optimize project budgets
· Assist and oversee Asset Manager to optimize operational portfolio and to Track and improve overall operational performance, including availability/uptime, production actuals vs. forecast, degradation
· Work with management to strategically grow the operations team, including bringing installation and electrical trades in-house
· Identify and implement opportunities to optimize project maintenance

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, construction management or related field
· Minimum of 5-10 years of direct construction management experience for solar energy projects
· Must have valid work authorization for the US
· Based in the New York City Metro area
· Self-starter who thrives in an independent work environment
· 15 Paid vacation days plus 14 national holidays
