We’re currently growing our team of Artisans with a
Director of Mechanical Projects. This role will be located at our
Sherwood Park, AB, Canadalocation and is responsible for mechanical planning and execution of work and leadership over employees within an assigned territory while exemplifying RTI’s Mission and Core Behaviors. This includes complete project ownership from proposal development, planning, scheduling, procurement mobilization, demobilization to billing.
Duties & Responsibilities Provide oversight, support and guidance to Mechanical Project Technicians & Mechanical Project Managers:
- Mentor and supervise to ensure job competencies and development plans are achieved.
- Conduct semi-annual and annual performance reviews for direct reports.
- Prioritize team workload for planning, mobilization and demobilization responsibilities.
- Facilitate work/life balance discussions.
- Review and approve direct report vacation requests, expense reports, stipends, etc.
- Challenge direct reports with assignments and continuing education responsibilities.
- Serve as a lead for training new Mechanical Project Technicians and Mechanical Project Managers.
- Lead weekly or bi-weekly staff team meetings.
- Evaluate safety performance on a regular basis.
- Own the proposal development and process to ensure accuracy and on-time delivery.
- Provide/schedule field support for planning, kick off, mobilization, demobilization.
- Review and approve all mechanical plans for assigned projects. Field review major projects.
- Ensure adequate staffing on all projects.
- Integrate with operations to provide alignment on mechanical projects and support.
- Coordinate and align regularly with Operations and Mechanical on assigned projects. Areas of focus include planning strategies, project deliverables, scope changes, preliminary / final plans and on-site support.
- Take an active role in lessons learned meetings for major projects.
Manage, communicate, and align project schedules with all business functions:
- Mechanical planning, mobilization, demobilization
- Equipment logistics, freight, equipment, and availability
Coordinate And Align With Business Development For
- Client presentations and sales calls.
- Planning schedules.
- Pricing strategy.
- Proposal development and accuracy.
- Mechanical estimates.
- Creating and fostering client relationships to identify and win mechanical rental business.
- Developing relationships and regularly interface with clients’, maintenance, operations, engineering, and turnaround teams.
- Champion and own the mechanical rental processes with discipline and accountability. Provide continuous training and coaching for mechanical, operations, business development and other functions as needed.
- Participate and lead process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance and governance of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management Program, including oversight of implementation, regulatory adherence, and escalation of integrity issues.
- Consistently recommend and lead initiatives to improve ease of doing business.
- Coordinate and procure equipment RFQ’s and manage 3rd party rentals.
- Support the development of new products and technologies.
- Perform other duties as required to support RTI’s business needs.
- Champion the roll out of new products and processes
- Will supervise team of Mechanical Project Technicians and Mechanical Project Managers and may act as lead when planning and executing projects in the field and/or provide direction to others.
- 5-10 years in a led, supervisor or management role in industrial maintenance/construction area/Operations
- Experience with piping and pressure vessels.
- Turn around experience in refineries.
Must be familiar with operations of refineries, chemical plants, or upgraders. Able to:
- Confidently lead a team of Mechanical Project Techs and Managers that plan and execute work,
- Competent in knowledge of piping fittings, spools, condensers, and PD pumps.
- Become very familiar with RTI technologies.
- Design effluent and drain header strategies.
- Communicate clearly and effectively.
- Efficiently and effectively handle multiple activities at one time.
- Quickly and thoroughly review mechanical plans.
- Be comfortable meeting with client leadership.
- Proficiency in Excel, and other Microsoft Office products.
- Experienced at reading and understanding construction and process drawings. Examples: P&ID, isometric drawings, equipment detail sheets and flow diagrams.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
The Company requires passing a pre-employment physical in which an objective medical professional will determine whether you can safely meet the physical demands of the position.
Duration Of Workhours During Project Executions
- Typically, 12 continuous hours that may extend up to 14 hours if an emergent need exists.
- Day shift and/or night shift.
- Uneven or unstable ground, and wet, muddy, or slippery surfaces and footings.
- Outside locations in extreme temperatures and weather conditions including wind, rain, snow, and other forms of inclement weather.
- Work at heights up to 150 ft/ 45m accessed via stairs, climbing ladders. This requires an ability to climb ladders and stairs without issue.
- Lifting and carrying up to 40lbs., without assistance.
- Pushing / pulling up to 100 lbs., without assistance.
- Standing and walking for up to 12 to 14 hours daily with minimal rest breaks. May exceed 10,000 to 15,000 steps per day.
- Bending and stooping repeatedly and performing task including twisting or turning valves and using wrenches and hand tools
- Would likely spend 50-70 nights away from home in a year.
