The Director of Human Resources is a key strategic partner and trusted advisor to the executive leadership team, responsible for building and leading a comprehensive people strategy that drives organizational growth and operational excellence. This role oversees all HR functions across Canada and the United States (with a focus on California), ensuring alignment with business objectives while fostering a positive, high-performance workplace culture.
The Director will lead initiatives in talent acquisition, retention, succession planning, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, learning and development, and compliance with all federal, provincial, state, and local employment laws. This role requires a proactive and hands-on leader who can balance strategic vision with practical execution guiding managers through complex employee relations issues, ensuring payroll and benefits compliance, and supporting branch locations through occasional travel.
By staying ahead of workforce trends, regulatory changes, and best practices, the Director of HR will ensure that the organization attracts, develops, and retains top talent while mitigating risk and promoting equity, inclusion, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Strong background in Alberta employment Standards, occupational health and safety, and compliance
- 5+ years of progressive HR Leadership, including 2 years in a leadership or managerial capacity leading HR initiatives or managing a small HR team- Direct experience with hands on HR operations; recruitment, onboarding, payroll and benefits
- Proven ability to create and implement HR process, policies and programs from the ground up
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- CPHR designation (or working towards)
- Experience with California labour laws
