We are seeking an experienced Director of Facilities and Motor Pool to provide strategic and operational leadership over our vehicle fleet (300+ units), heavy equipment portfolio, yards, and company facilities. This role is responsible for fleet uptime, capital planning, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, storm readiness, and scalable infrastructure to support field crews and project teams.
The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, deep knowledge of CDL and heavy equipment operations, and executive-level leadership capability in high-liability construction or utility environments. This role works closely with executive leadership, field operations, accounting, safety, vendors, and insurance partners.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Develop and execute a 3–5 year fleet replacement and capital forecasting strategy.
· Oversee lifecycle management and performance tracking for 300+ fleet and specialty equipment assets, including Class 5–8 CDL trucks, bucket trucks, digger derricks, trailers, and support vehicles.
· Ensure fleet availability targets of 95%+ job-ready uptime.
· Oversee preventative maintenance programs and compliance inspections (DOT, FMCSA, BIT, emissions, annual certifications).
· Ensure complete and audit-ready vehicle files and regulatory documentation.
· Monitor telematics and GPS systems to track equipment utilization and lifecycle performance.
· Lead rapid mobilization and demobilization efforts for large projects and storm restoration deployments.
· Ensure 100% fleet readiness during emergency response and mutual assistance events.
· Oversee yard and facility operations including corporate offices, equipment yards, warehouses, fuel systems, wash racks, and temporary project sites.
· Coordinate new yard development, site acquisition, lease negotiations, grading, fencing, utilities, modular offices, and security systems.
· Manage building systems including access control, alarms, lighting, and vendor service agreements.
· Oversee environmental, OSHA, and regulatory compliance considerations across facilities.
· Develop and manage department operating and capital budgets.
· Conduct lifecycle cost analysis and ROI evaluations for major asset purchases.
· Review and approve repair estimates, capital expenditures, and vendor invoices.
· Oversee fleet-related liability exposure and coordinate with insurance providers on claims and risk mitigation.
· Partner with Safety on fleet-related investigations and customer compliance requirements.
· Supervise fleet managers, mechanics, yard personnel, and facilities staff.
· Develop scalable systems, KPI dashboards, and operational processes to support regional growth.
· Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Candidate must be able to meet the following requirements:
· Strong understanding of heavy equipment and CDL fleet maintenance principles.
· Extensive knowledge of DOT and FMCSA compliance requirements.
· Experience managing multi-location fleet and facilities operations.
· Strong financial acumen including capital planning and budget management.
· Experience negotiating large vendor agreements and managing external service providers.
· Experience supervising technicians, yard personnel, or fleet staff.
· Ability to prioritize competing operational demands under shifting conditions, including emergency response scenarios.
· Strong judgment and discretion with confidential information.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and meet company insurance requirements.
· Capable of site visits and travel to local yards, facilities, or emergency deployment locations.
· Capable of lifting, bending, carrying, and navigating yard, warehouse, and outdoor environments.
· Ability to collaborate with executive leadership, accounting, safety, and field operations.
· Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Experience using fleet management, telematics, or asset tracking software.
· Demonstrated ability to build scalable systems in high-growth operational environments.
