Design Engineer

Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This role blends hands-on design work with leadership responsibilities, supporting high-mix, low-volume manufacturing. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in sheet metal fabrication, with the ability to guide and mentor a small engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

- Create, modify, and review 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.

- Design light-gauge sheet metal components focused on manufacturability, cost, and quality.

- Design of multi material projects from concept to bills of materials & methods of manufacturing.

- Generate & maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and define manufacturing methods and processes for high-mix, low-volume production.

- Apply value engineering with a focus on reducing costs & maintaining quality.

- Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve design or production issues.

Customer & Sales Support

- Interface with customers to define requirements and technical specifications.

- Provide technical expertise during sales meetings and customer consultations.

- Present design concepts, answer technical questions, and support projects from concept through delivery.

Team Leadership

- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, managing priorities and project assignments.

- Conduct design reviews, provide technical guidance, and promote continuous improvement.

- Foster a collaborative, solutions-focused team culture.

Process Improvement

- Identify opportunities for design optimization and manufacturing efficiency.

- Support lean initiatives and implement best practices in sheet metal design and fabrication.

Qualifications

Required

- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.

- 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design or engineering support.

- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools.
