Responsibilities:


As a Derrickhand at Big Country Drilling, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the operation and maintenance of the drilling rig's derrick. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:


- Assisting in the setup and dismantling of the drilling rig, including assembling, and disassembling mud pumps, tanks, boiler units and core shacks.

- Operating drilling equipment, such as wireline, mud pumps, and hoisting machinery, under the direction of the Driller.

- Performing routine maintenance tasks on the derrick, mud pumps and associated equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition.

- Assisting with the handling and connection of drilling pipes, drill collars, and other drilling tools.

- Fetching downhole core tooling during coring operations.

- Participating in the inspection and maintenance of drilling tools and equipment, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards.

- Monitoring drilling operations, including the circulation of drilling fluids, and reporting any irregularities or issues.

- Adding and mixing products to mud system as needed.

- Assisting in the training and mentoring of junior crew members, promoting a culture of safety and efficiency.

- Adhering to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.

- Collaborating effectively with the drilling team, communicating, and coordinating tasks to ensure smooth workflow.



Requirements:


To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:


- Previous experience as a Derrickhand in the oil and gas industry is preferred.

- Solid understanding of drilling equipment, rig components, and associated processes.

- Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding conditions, with a focus on safety.

- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks on drilling equipment and mud systems.

- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to ensure clear and accurate information exchange.

- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision.

- Ability to work well within a team environment and collaborate with crew members to achieve common goals.

- Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

- Willingness to follow instructions and adhere to company policies and procedures.

- An understanding of safety procedures and the ability to always prioritize safety.

- Physical fitness and stamina to withstand the demands of the job, including working in challenging weather conditions and performing manual labor.


- Valid oil field tickets (Willing to train the right candidate)

- Valid driver's license with clean abstract (Preference given to Class 3 and Class 1 drivers)

- Willingness to travel as required.

- Be proficient with digital software tools that are used for safety documentation, employee status and equipment work orders.
