Job Summary: The Crane Operator is responsible for operating mobile or stationary cranes to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The operator controls cranes to lift and move materials and other objects. Crane operators are essential in construction, manufacturing, and transportation industries.
- Operate cranes, such as mobile cranes, tower cranes, and overhead cranes, to lift, move, and place equipment and materials.
- Follow load charts to determine the safe load limit and lifting capacities of the crane.
- Maneuver cranes in compliance with established safety standards and guidelines.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections of cranes to ensure safety and functionality.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Report any mechanical issues or safety hazards to the site supervisor immediately.
- Coordinate with ground personnel and signalers to ensure accurate and safe lifting operations.
- Use hand signals, radios, or other communication devices to receive instructions and communicate with other workers.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on crane equipment.
- Keep records of maintenance and repairs conducted on the crane.
- Maintain logs of crane operations, including details of lifts and any incidents or near-misses.
- Ensure all lifting activities are documented according to company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Certification from a recognized crane operator training program (e.g., NCCCO, CIC).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating cranes in a similar environment.
- Knowledge of crane operation, safety protocols, and load dynamics. • Ability to read and interpret load charts and technical manuals.
- Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Good physical condition and ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- The job is primarily outdoors and may involve working in all weather conditions.
- May require working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Physical demands include lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
