Hybrid Remote Schedule
This role has the option to be a blend of remote and onsite work if department and business needs allow and with approval from direct supervision. Our hybrid remote work schedule combines three (3) days on premises with up to two (2) days remote.
Key Roles
This position is responsible for providing oversight of accounting and reporting activities, including the preparation of financial reports, security and maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company¿s reported financial results, and ensure that reports and data comply with generally accepted accounting principles and all other regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
•Responsible for the financial reporting activities of EKPC, including reports to be filed with regulatory bodies (e.g., SEC, FERC, IRS, PSC, and RUS) and stakeholders / Member Systems.
•Responsible for timely preparation of internal financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements, historical results analysis, board and committee reports, and other management reports.
•Provides oversight of accounting department supervisors:
•Takes ownership of financial reporting systems, including the general ledger and fixed assets system to ensure information is timely, accurate, and useful for management.
•Researches EKPC accounting issues and recommends appropriate action plans; communicates accounting changes and announcements which impact the organization.
•Coordinates external audit activities; serves as the primary contact for internal/external auditors as it relates to accounting and financial reporting issues and compliance.
•Reviews and analyzes financial results for accuracy, content, and regulatory compliance.
•Responsible for the preparation and filing of the monthly fuel adjustment clause (FAC) calculations with the Kentucky PSC in accordance with 807 KAR 5:056.
•Provides support and testifies in hearing before the Kentucky Public Service Commission.
•Establishes and implements short- and long-term policies, objectives, and operating procedures for all accounting operations and staff.
•Performs management duties including budgeting, hiring, training, coaching, performance management, etc.
•Establishes and maintains an appropriate control environment over all transactions.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education and Certifications / Licenses:
•Bachelor¿s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
•Certified Public Accountant license required.
Experience:
•Ten (10) years of related experience. Must have five (5) years of management experience in a mid-size accounting department.
•Five (5) years of technical accounting experience gained through public accounting or management of an accounting department.
•Must have five (5) years of managing month-end close process.
•Must have five (5) years of experience in managing external audit process.
Skills and Abilities:
•Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage, develop, and motivate staff.
•Comprehensive knowledge and application of financial and analytical skills.
•Comprehensive knowledge of accounting methodologies, principles, and standards, including GAAP, FASB, IFRS, RUS, FERC, IRS, KRS, and other state and local taxing regulations.
•Thorough working knowledge of principles and procedures associated with utility accounting.
•Comprehensive knowledge of utility regulation.
•Ability to translate complex financial concepts for individuals at all levels, including finance and non-financial managers.
•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with variety of personnel at all levels of the organization, including external contacts.
