As we scale, we’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Controller to lead our finance and accounting operations.
About the Role
This is a hands-on accounting leadership position. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves for daily transactional work and providing strategic financial insights to support our growth. You’ll oversee all aspects of our finance function, manage compliance across Canada and the U.S., and play a critical role in budgeting and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
•Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close
•Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
•Produce timely financial statements and reports for management
•Lead year-end audit preparation and liaise with external accountants
Systems & Processes
•Maintain and optimize accounting processes within QuickBooks Enterprise
•Ensure accurate product costing, inventory management, and job/project accounting
Compliance & Tax
•Ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. tax regulations
•Prepare and file U.S. state sales tax returns (multi-jurisdictional)
•Prepare and file Canadian sales tax returns
•Assist with corporate income tax filings in partnership with external advisors
Strategic Support
•Provide monthly and quarterly financial dashboards and KPI tracking
•Support the budgeting and forecasting process
•Partner with leadership to evaluate capital expenditures and long-term planning
Qualifications
•CPA designation (or equivalent experience) preferred
•5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a small or mid-sized business
•Proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise is essential
•Experience managing or preparing U.S. tax filings including US state sales tax
•Strong understanding of inventory, cost accounting, and job costing
•Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal oversight
•Comfortable being both strategic and hands-on—this is a roll-up-your-sleeves role
