Looking for a Contract to Hire Full-Time Controller at our growing Energy Management company in Troy, MI!!
The Controller leads the accounting function and ensures the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting. This role is responsible for the oversight of accounting operations, internal controls, compliance, and the financial close process. The Controller plays a strategic and hands-on role, partnering with senior leadership to support the company’s financial performance, regulatory reporting, and continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes.

Responsibility #1- Compliance & Controls
•Directs all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and commissions.
•Develops and enforces accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
•Monitors and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
•Oversees internal accounting and coordinates with external accountants / auditors to facilitate annual reports, address any findings, and ensure timely and clean audit outcomes.
Responsibility #2- Financial Reporting
•Leads the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
•Ensures timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
•Oversees the monthly close process and ensures proper reconciliation of accounts.
Responsibility #3- Team Leadership
•Leads, mentors, and develops accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
•Monitors and analyzes financial performance, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
•Manages team performance, sets clear objectives, and supports professional development.
Responsibility #4- Financial Analysis & Planning
•Partners with senior leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling efforts.
•Provides variance analysis and financial performance reviews.
•Supports strategic initiatives with detailed financial analysis and recommendations.
Responsibility #5 – Systems & Process Improvement
•Develops and implements efficient accounting processes and controls to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
•Along with support staff, develops and implements procedures to pay commissions to company sales representatives in accordance with properly approved compensation arrangements.
•Continuously assesses and enhances accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.
•Oversees the implementation and optimization of financial systems, including ERP and reporting tools.
Do you have these qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
•7 - 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 4 years in a management or leadership role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•SQL-based query tools such as MS Access (via ODBC), SQLPlusW, or TOAD, in addition to accounting and financial software such as Great Plains, Zoho, or NetSuite required.
•Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and internal control practices.
•Proven experience managing accounting operations and engaging with stakeholders.
