Thompson Metal Fab is a well-established veteran-owned heavy structural steel and plate fabrication business in Vancouver, WA. We are seeking an a Controller to play a key role in supporting the financial and accounting operations of Thompson Metal Fab, working closely with the CFO. This role is heavily involved in analytical reporting, internal controls, and the maintenance of accounting systems and procedures. The role also focuses on budgeting, variance analysis, project projection and benchmarking. The Controller must have a strong understanding of accounting principles and a detail-oriented approach to financial analysis.

Salary for this position ranges between $100,000 and $125,000 annually, depending on experience.
- Along with the CFO sets and achieves Finance & Accounting policies, procedures, short-term and long-term objectives.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and GAAP.
- Serves as a company ERP system subject matter expert (SME) with the mindset of company-wide optimization.
- Perform detailed financial analysis and provide reports to support management decision-making.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures (SOPs) and implement controls to minimize risk.
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process, analyzing variances, and providing insights on significant financial issues to management.
- Provide benchmarking and financial KPIs for tracking company performance.
- Collaborate with Payroll and HR to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with tax filings and other legal requirements.
- Assist with external and internal audits, including the preparation of required documentation.
- Engages in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including sales and use tax, property tax returns, and SALT requirements.
- Maintains company FAR computation/analyses
- Performs Payroll related accounting, files monthly and quarterly Payroll taxes.
- Proactively works with company Project Managers to generate Customer Billings.
- Meets company Cash Flow objectives by making regular Customer collection calls/contact
- Performs Fixed Asset accounting including Property Tax return filing and CAPEX investment analysis.
- Completes company Annual Overhead Job Budget analysis working with each manager.
- Provides Actual to Budget Overhead Job Budget analysis after each fiscal quarter.
- Performs various Treasury /Banking tasks such as applying cash or approving ACH transactions.
- Completes benchmarking reports to measure the performance of company operations.
- Serve as the Finance & Accounting department leader when CFO is absent.
- Serve as back-up for Weekly Payroll Processing.
- Serves as back-up for Accounts Payable function.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business administration from an accredited college or university.
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting responsibility and commensurate ERP system and BI tool experience. Trimble Viewpoint ERP experience preferred.
- Proficiency using MS-Office 365 products especially MS-Excel.
- Preference will be given to candidates with CPA or CMA designation.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in standard English for the purpose of quality communication.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with job costing in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction setting is a plus.
Work Environment: This position is 100% in-office at our Vancouver, WA location.
