We're looking for a proactive and strategic Controller to join our growing team. As we expand, we need someone who can take full ownership of our financial strategy, developing, executing, and optimizing it to drive financial health and growth. This role is ideal for a finance leader ready to build the finance function of a high-growth company, influence strategic decisions, and prepare the organization for future investment.
As Controller, you'll play a critical leadership role in shaping the financial direction of our organization. Your work will directly support our mission to build a reputation rooted in care, quality, and trust - all while driving strategic growth and operational efficiency. You'll bring clarity to our numbers, empower better decisions through insights, and champion processes that evolve with our business.
- Lead the ownership of the company's financial health, from day-to-day accounting to long-term forecasting
- Collaborate closely with the CEO and leadership team to develop and refine annual budgets, forecasts, and financial strategies that align with business goals
- Prepare and deliver insightful financial reporting and presentations for internal stakeholders, investors, and banking partners
- Develop forward-looking analysis through monthly financial forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting
- Build scalable frameworks and controls that reduce manual processes and shift the finance team toward strategic value delivery
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable (AR/AP), bank reconciliations, invoicing, and general ledger maintenance
- Lead monthly close activities, delivering key financial reports (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) within established deadlines
- Manage monthly tax and business license payments to ensure compliance and timely submission
- Design and maintain financial models to support cash flow planning and month-over-month performance comparisons
- Lead the design and enhancement of financial systems and/or automation tools to streamline accounting and reporting, improve efficiencies, and support business growth and scaling
- Create workflows that reduce manual work and strengthen accuracy, scalability, and speed of financial processes
- Develop integrated dashboards and KPIs that provide real-time visibility across the business
- Drive continuous improvement by adopting technology that supports data-driven decision-making
- Partner with HR to oversee payroll compliance, reconciliations, and benefits-related financial processes
- Oversee payroll onboarding and offboarding (including ROEs) and employee benefits setup
- Support procurement processes including oversight of purchase orders (POs) and timely vendor payments (EFT, credit card, transfers)
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure finance supports broader operational and strategic goals
- Continue a culture of accountability, transparency, and improvement across the finance function
- Provide guidance and clear expectations to build capacity in the team as the company scales
- Champion company-wide adoption of KPIs, ensuring alignment and measurable progress toward goals
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role- Proven expertise in full-cycle accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, tax regulations, and payroll compliance
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with accounting/finance systems and advanced Excel (financial modelling, pivot tables, automation)
- Experience in high-growth or scaling environments
- Ability to mentor a team and present insights to executives, investors, and non-financial stakeholders
- Strategic thinker with a proactive and collaborative approach
- Leader with a track record of results-driven performance and the ability to build and exceed KPIs
- Alignment with company values of reputation, kindness, loyalty, and trust
- Familiarity with profit-sharing or incentive models
- Prior systems integration experience
- Experience in investor relations, capital raising, or banking partnerships
- Multi-jurisdiction operations experience
- Familiarity with cloud-based platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, ADP WFN, UKG)
