We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our close-knit team and oversee our accounting and financial operations. This role is hands-on and works closely with ownership, project managers, and operations to keep projects running smoothly and profitably.
The Controller is responsible for day-to-day accounting, job cost management, month-end close, and compliance with prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements for public works projects. This is a key role that supports the financial health and continued growth of our company.
- Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, cash flow, and financial records
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and contract billing
- Maintain accurate job cost accounting and support project financial tracking
- Lead the monthly close process, including bank and credit card reconciliations
- Serve as backup for payroll processing and ensure accurate labor cost postings
- Oversee prevailing wage and certified payroll compliance and reporting
- Ensure financial data is accurately maintained in Spectrum
- Close jobs upon completion and assist with project closeout
- Work closely with ownership and project managers to support informed decision-making
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent construction accounting experience
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or electrical contracting- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project-based financials
- Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements
- Experience with construction accounting software (Spectrum preferred)
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to communicate effectively with a small team
