Commodity Buyer Position

Reports To: Purchasing Manager Location: Elkhart, IN Department: Materials Management

Position Summary

We are looking for a motivated Commodity Buyer to help keep our production running smoothly by ensuring a steady flow of raw materials and packaging components. This role ensures the availability of materials to support manufacturing demand, assists with inventory monitoring, and collaborates closely with internal departments and suppliers to maintain a smooth supply chain operation.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze and manage purchasing activities within our Epicor ERP system to maintain optimal material inventory levels.

- Create, issue, and maintain purchase orders to meet production requirements and delivery timelines.

- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, keeping management informed of market conditions and supply trends.

- Collaborate with other internal departments to resolve material issues, ensure document accuracy, and assist with new and ongoing projects.

- Communicate with internal customers regarding material deliveries & delays.

- Work with suppliers to increase inventory turns while reducing costs where possible.

- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between production schedules and material availability.

- Collaborate with other internal departments to resolve material issues, ensure document accuracy, and assist with new and ongoing projects.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- 2-5 years of production buying or procurement experience preferred.

- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with MRP and ERP purchasing systems. Experience with Epicor software is a plus.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

- Highly self-motivated, able to thrive in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.

- Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.

- Effective verbal and written communication skills for internal and external stakeholders.

- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines independently.

- Strong customer focus, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
