The Business Development Manager plays a crucial role in advancing GMB Power Line Service’s growth strategy by building strong client relationships, developing new market opportunities, and securing high-value contracts in the utility sector. This position is responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities across electric utility projects while collaborating with internal operations and leadership to deliver competitive, value-driven solutions.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new and expanded utility market opportunities.
- Develop customer-specific sales strategies to address client needs and priorities.
- Negotiate strategic vendor partnerships that strengthen GMB’s market presence.
- Support large project specification and pricing, ensuring competitive and profitable proposals.
- Create and present value-added solution options that differentiate GMB from its competitors.
- Achieve profitable growth in alignment with organizational goals.
- Increase efficiency of projects by recommending improvements in processes and materials.
- Regularly travel to meet with current and prospective clients.
- Conduct joint customer calls in collaboration with leadership, operations, or vendor partners.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Positively represent and promote GMB to vendors, customers, and the communities we serve.
- Record and maintain customer and contact information for all accounts
- Stay informed on industry trends, competitive landscape, and regional opportunities.
- Represent GMB at conferences, trade shows, and industry networking events.
- Develop and maintain a database of leads, contracts, and opportunities.
- Create, maintain, and report on opportunity pipeline forecasts.
- Plan, organize, and manage travel schedules to maximize customer interactions and sales productivity.
- Bachelor’s degree; or work-related equivalent
- Experience in utility-focused sales roles (knowledge in distribution, transmission, substation a plus)
- Expertise and successful leadership in high value contract negotiations
- Knowledge of utility industry, operations, and asset management
- In-depth, cross-functional operational knowledge of U.S. utilities organizations and their ways of working
