Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our oil and gas operations team. The ideal candidate will manage day-to-day financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and support the accounting functions specific to upstream/midstream oil and gas activities. This role requires strong proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, OpenTicket (Enverus digital field ticketing), Microsoft Excel, GPS Audit processes, and payroll processing. The successful candidate must be a proactive problem solver with solid general office skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced energy environment.
- Maintain and update financial records using QuickBooks Desktop, including entering transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing basic financial reports.
- Process and manage field tickets and invoices through OpenTicket software, including verification of tickets, coding, approvals, and integration with accounts payable workflows to ensure accurate and timely processing of oilfield services invoices.
- Perform data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting using advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas, and data imports/exports).
- Conduct GPS Audit reviews and verifications to ensure compliance with company policies, accurate allocation of expenses, and proper documentation for audits in oil and gas operations.
- Handle payroll processing, including time entry verification, deductions, tax withholdings, and generating payroll reports, with familiarity in oilfield-specific payroll considerations (e.g., per diems, overtime for field personnel).
- Manage accounts payable and receivable cycles, including invoice processing, vendor payments, customer invoicing, and collections follow-up.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and intercompany transactions on a monthly basis.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including preparing journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Track revenue and expenses related to oil and gas production, leases, joint interest billing (JIB), and field operations.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies, billing issues, or process inefficiencies through investigation and collaboration with operations, field staff, and vendors.
- Maintain organized filing systems (digital and physical) for financial documents, contracts, and compliance records.
- Provide general office support as needed, including answering inquiries, preparing correspondence, and assisting with administrative tasks.
- Ensure all work complies with industry regulations, company policies, and GAAP principles applicable to the oil and gas sector.
- Minimum 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry (upstream, midstream, or oilfield services).
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop (required).
- Hands-on experience with OpenTicket (Enverus field ticketing software) for processing and auditing digital oilfield tickets.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced level).
- Demonstrated experience with GPS Audit procedures or similar audit/verification tools in oil and gas accounting.
- Proven payroll processing experience, including multi-state or industry-specific requirements.
- Solid understanding of general office procedures, including file management, communication, and multitasking.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions independently.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with operations, vendors, and management.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Familiarity with oil and gas-specific concepts (e.g., joint interest billing, revenue distribution, lease operating expenses, AFEs).
- Experience with additional oil and gas software (e.g., Enverus OpenInvoice or similar platforms).
