We are actively seeking an Assistant Controller to join our dynamic team in Missouri.
- Assists the Director of Finance with the organization's accounting functions including cost, payables, receivables, and reporting.
- Handles daily activity for Cash Receipts, Invoicing, and Collections.
- Audits and prepares jobs for closeout, and records some transactions to the General Ledger.
- Maintains schedules that support balance sheet reconciliation.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
- 3–5 years of accounting experience is strongly preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing and/or job shop environment is desired
- CMA is a plus but not required
- Experience with invoicing, AP/AR, and collections strongly preferred
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective time management and ability to multi-task
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in budgeting and month-end reporting
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be proficient with accounting software as well as Microsoft Office suite and ERP systems (Encompix)
The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Director of Finance. No positions report to the Assistant Controller.
The Assistant Controller is responsible for performing both project cost accounting and general accounting functions. This includes cost allocation across entities, capitalization of project expenses, and managing daily accounting operations such as month-end close and financial reporting. A strong understanding of project-related cost tracking along with the ability to track, reconcile, and properly classify costs in accordance with GAAP is required.
The Assistant Controller works in an office environment and may perform repetitive data entry on a daily basis. The position involves extensive computer work, and making collections calls. Requires analytical thinking, proactive problem solving skills, and interpersonal skills that foster positive communications with customers, vendors and other employees at all levels within the company. Consistency and accuracy are critical, and efficiency is required to meet daily deadlines.
- Ensures that all corporate and required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed by the organization.
- Oversees the preparation of periodic reporting and coordinates with auditors as needed.
- Handles routine functions in a timely and efficient manner.
- Meets deadlines consistently and with accuracy in data.
- Monitors Accounts Receivable collections and informs management of collection concerns.
- Consistently displays a professional manner in interacting with customers, vendors and employees.
- Consistently produces accurate and neat documentation of work in accordance to GH Tool standards.
- Effectively uses accrual accounting, recognizing revenue when earned and expenses when incurred.
- Knowledge or the ability to learn POC (percentage of completion) accounting method.
- Understands how to properly code expenses to the proper cost centers.
- Works with the Director of Finance to close the accounting books at the end of each period.
- Maintains the check deposit system and completes bank reconciliations using electronic banking app.
- Prepares and posts standard monthly journal entries.
- Performs cash management entries and prepare and/or review bank reconciliations.
- Analyzes financial and project data to ensure proper revenue recognition.
- Oversees project and job billing processes.
- Assists in reconciliation of balance sheet and income statement accounts, as well as inventory.
