Reporting to the Supervisor, Assay Lab, you will be part of the Process Plant Department. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Respect for the assay lab Health & Safety practices, specifically the reagents used in the fire assay process
- Weighing and preparation of mill and mine samples
- Fusing, pouring and de-slagging mill and mine samples
- Cupelling and final collection of beads for mill and mine samples
- Organizing ones time in order to optimize sample throughput in fire assay.
- Validate sample identification using LIMS.
- Maintain a neat and contaminate free work station.
- Maintain fire assay equipment, specifically furnaces.
- Manage consumables for optimum cost efficiency and reduced waste.
- Keep material and samples in an orderly and neat fashion.
- Wet Lab:
- Preparation of sample beads for AA determination by use of acid digestion
- Reading of prepared samples on AA instrument
- Determination of WAD-CN (Weak Acid Dissociation) using a colorimeter
- Determination of TSS (Total Suspended Solids)
- Preparation of sample beads for gravimetric determination
- Determination of base metals using AA instrument
- Preparation of mill solution samples using “lead boat” method (for Au)
- Bullion determinations
- Reporting sample results after review, if within QA/QC criteria
- Using micro-balance for the determination of gravimetric analysis
- Routinely monitor equipment and glassware for accuracy to ensure quality readings and results
- Secondary Tasks:
- Maintain an organized and neat work area to control contaminants
- Some equipment maintenance (example: AA cleaning)
- Report all accidents, incidents, defective equipment and unsafe work conditions to the supervisor and be actively involved in finding solutions or making the workplace safe
- Generating worksheets in LIMS
- Operating carbon/sulfur analyzer when needed
- Perform other duties as required within the limits set by company Health & Safety and environmental policies and regulations
- Actively participate in the Assay Lab inventory management system
- Diploma/Degree in a science discipline (Analytical Chemistry an asset); and/or proven relevant experience;
- Experience in an Assay Lab setting in a similar role including sample preparation and fire assaying would be considered an asset;
- Intermediate computer skills would be considered an asset.

- Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest;
- Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
