Job Summary
Under immediate supervision, to work with and assist a Power Plant Technician, receiving increasing instruction and experience in the maintenance and operation of power plants.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Work with and assist a Power Plant Technician by providing tools and materials.
During training, perform progressively more difficult and technical duties.
Assist in the inspection and maintenance of plant equipment and facilities, hydraulic activators, lubrication oil levels, generator cooling water systems, generators and turbines, station batteries and switchboards.
Meggering and high pot testing.
Check and record exciter generator brush condition, relays and daily generator operations.
Assist in the operation of the switchboard, switchyard, hydraulic governors, and spillway gates.
Perform welding and fabrication work.
Operate radio and telephone equipment.
Assist in the maintenance of a variety of records including those for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Respond to emergency situations and be on call as assigned.
Transmission and distribution line patrolling.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be:
Education
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience
None required.
Skills And Abilities
Interpersonal and Communication.
Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Technical and Analytical.
Ability to: learn to read and interpret plans and specifications; and keep records and prepare reports. Knowledge of: basic electricity; mechanical and hydraulic principles; and hazard and safety precautions.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license.
Must furnish own hand tools.
All power plant classifications permanently assigned to the Don Pedro Dam Powerhouse must live in a District house at the Don Pedro Dam area.
Required
This classification will be required to work a scheduled on-call period. Employees who are assigned an on-call period have a response time obligation as listed below:
An on-call employee who is dispatched from the Turlock
Broadway Yard Control Center must be able to arrive
at the Control Center, within thirty (30) minutes of the
time they are called out. The on-call employee must
obey all applicable traffic laws when responding to a call
out.
An on-call employee who is permanently assigned to the
Don Pedro Lake Powerhouse must be able to arrive at the
Don Pedro Lake Powerhouse, within thirty (30) minutes of
the time they are called out. The on-call employee must
obey all applicable traffic laws when responding to a call out.
While the minimum passing score is 70%, candidates who score highest may be considered for advancement in the recruitment process.
