During the course of this step the Apprentice is furthering his/her proficiency in all training and knowledge of the seven prior steps. The AP8 will be doing Journeyman Lineman work and learning the line skills of managing a crew, both in the line work itself and the skills that are necessary to fulfill the clerical part of the Foreman's responsibilities.

Before moving to the classification of Journeyman Lineman he/she must have:

- Can and will act as Foreman (under Foreman supervision) to demonstrate planning and leadership skills.

- Will have a MINIMUM of 8000 logged hours (four years) in the field of Power Line Distribution and/or Transmission.
