We’re looking for an Applications Engineer, Electrical Engineering
to partner with the Inside Sales and Estimating team by providing preliminary engineering, technical guidance, and cost estimates for custom power distribution projects. This role works on repair, upgrade, and retrofit solutions for LV/MV switchgear, transformers, breakers, and related systems. You will collaborate with sales teams and customers to gather technical data, develop preliminary designs and Bills of Materials, to ensure we deliver accurate proposals that meet customer and business needs.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert supporting sales efforts for relay replacement and protection & controls upgrade projects.
- Conduct customer site visits to assess needs, gather data, and provide technical guidance.
- Develop preliminary designs defining scope, materials, sequencing, and technical requirements for accurate estimates.
- Prepare bid-compliant proposals, cost estimates, Bills of Materials , and part numbers for custom-engineered solutions.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to finalize technical solutions, pricing, and approvals.
- Ensure solutions comply with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Support development of estimating tools, templates, and best practices.
- Maintain project and customer records in CRM and SharePoint.
- Train and support sales teams on technical capabilities and assist with customer negotiations and presentations.
- Collaborate across engineering, service, sourcing, and leadership teams to resolve issues and support operations.- 5+ years of experience in technical sales, preferably in power systems or electrical engineering
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience in training sales teams and supporting clients with complex technical solutions
- Strong communicator with excellent presentation, negotiation, and organizational skills
- Capable of conveying technical value to customers with clarity and professionalism
- Confidently managing multiple sales efforts in parallel and maintaining strong client relationships
- Analytically minded with an ability to monitor competitor trends and propose new solutions
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related technical field preferred; additional experience considered
- Valid and current driver’s license
- Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
- Willing and able to travel up to 35% across the U.S.
- NETA Level 2, 3, or 4 certification
- Experience in controls, relay upgrades, or arc-flash and coordination studies
- Technical field experience in power systems
- Participation in client-facing sales presentations or technical conferences
