Scotia Recycling Limited (SRL), a member of the Scotia Investments Limited (SIL) family of companies, is an operator of Atlantic Canada’s leading recycling facilities located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland. With an approximate workforce of 175 dedicated employees, we specialize in the collection, processing, sales, and brokerage of recyclable materials, and are a proven industry leader that has been in operation since 1976.
SRL is seeking a highly motivated Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our growing team. This is a 4-month contract located in Hantsport, Nova Scotia.
Reporting to the temporary Controller and working closely with our Accounts Receivable Lead, the successful candidate must be able to prioritize, coordinate and manage multiple activities, thrive in a fast paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, accuracy and detail.
Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Process and post all incoming payments (EFTs, wire transfers, checks, and credit cards) accurately into our internal accounting system.
- Ensure ensuring proper application of payments in USD and CAD.
- Reconcile daily deposits and apply payments to customer accounts based on remittance information.
- Generate and distribute invoices to customers in both U.S. and Canadian currencies.
- Monitor accounts for overdue balances and follow-up with customers regarding payment status.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all AR activities.
- Communicate with customers to resolve discrepancies and respond to billing inquiries.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closings.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing and payment issues.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing relevant AR and payment records.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience in accounts receivable or general accounting.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Proficient working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Experience with Sage 300, NetSuite or other accounting software.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with EFTs and other electronic payment processing systems.
This position is an evolving one, therefore they may be additional duties associated with this opening. Training will be provided on in-house systems, but the knowledge of accounts receivables is essential.
