INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience with Accounts Payable; experience with invoice entry, payments and reporting; and have experience with unclaimed property.
This position will be responsible for financial duties associated with processing and maintenance of financial records for the District, Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA), Springs Preserve, Big Bend Water District (BBWD) and other small systems.
Under general supervision, performs highly responsible accounting support duties in reviewing for accuracy and processing payments for purchases, contracts, utility bills and other expenditures; follows up to resolve discrepancies; and performs related duties as assigned.
District financial and accounting policies, practices and procedures applicable to purchasing, accounts payable and receivable processing, and related financial transactions; processes, practices and terminology of bookkeeping and elementary accounting; functions and operations of the District's enterprise accounting and purchasing systems; methods, practices and documents used in processing accounting transactions and interpreting input and output data; standard office practices and procedures.
Operate a computer using standard business software and the District’s enterprise accounting and purchasing systems; analyze, balance and reconcile complicated financial data and accounts following established procedures; make calculations and tabulations and review purchasing and fiscal documents and information accurately and rapidly; understand, interpret, explain and apply and reach sound decisions in accordance with District accounting and purchasing rules, policies and procedures; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; prepare clear and accurate financial transactions, records and reports; work effectively and courteously with District staff, vendor representatives and others encountered in the course of work.
A typical way of obtaining the knowledges, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, completion of course work in bookkeeping and accounting and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in performing accounting support duties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in a government or public utility setting is highly desirable.
