Accounting Associate

Northwest Environmental is seeking an Accounting Associate for our finance team. This role works closely with the Assistant Comptroller to maintain financial records, assist with month-end closing, reconcile accounts, and support accounts payable and receivable. The focus is on data integrity, timely reporting, and general accounting assistance to streamline financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

· Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, adjustments, and prepayments, as needed.

· Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies.

· Support accounts payable by processing vendor invoices, preparing payments, and maintaining vendor files.

· Assist with accounts receivable tasks, including invoice generation, cash application, and resolving customer billing questions.

· Help with the month-end close checklist by gathering supporting documentation, running account analyses, and ensuring all transactions are recorded.

· Compile basic financial reports (e.g., trial balance, account schedules) for review by the CFO and Assistant Comptroller.

· Maintain organized electronic and physical filing of accounting documentation to comply with company policies.

· Collaborate with the finance team to identify process improvements or opportunities to strengthen internal controls.

Experience and Skills:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent coursework.

· A minimum of 1–2 years of accounting experience, including internships or entry-level roles, is acceptable.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, basic formulas).

· Familiarity with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems).

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliations.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across departments.

· Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

· Integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
