JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled Welding Engineer to lead all welding-related engineering, qualification, and production support activities across our facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and qualifying Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), managing and executing Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) and Welder Performance Qualification Records (WPQRs), and maintaining all associated quality documentation including welder continuity logs and traceability records. This position will also play a key role in R&D, developing and optimizing new welding procedures for structural, pipe, inlay, and hardfacing applications in support of business growth. The Welding Engineer will interface closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure compliance, manufacturability, and repeatable weld quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Welding Engineering & Qualification • Draft, review, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) in accordance with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, API 6A/16A/16C/16F, and other applicable codes. • Plan and execute PQR testing, including coordination of NDT, mechanical, and hardness testing as required. • Maintain a complete library of WPS/PQR/WPQR documents and revision control through the Quality Management System. • Conduct qualification testing for new welders and maintain ongoing welder performance records. Quality & Compliance • Manage all welding-related quality records, including continuity logs, traceability, inspection reports, and weld maps. • Ensure welding operations comply with internal procedures and customer specifications. Page 1 of 2 • Support customer and third-party audits related to welding processes and qualifications. • Collaborate with the Quality Manager and Inspectors to address weld NCRs, repairs, and root cause analysis. Production Support • Create and issue work orders and routers for welding activities, defining weld sequences, materials, and inspection steps. • Provide technical support to welders on process parameters, joint fit-up, and consumable selection. • Assist production management in planning weld operations for fabrication, repair, and overlay projects. Research & Development • Develop and optimize new welding procedures to support new product lines, repair processes, and cladding/inlay operations. • Perform trials and documentation for emerging welding technologies and consumables. • Collaborate with engineering and machining teams to evaluate weld design, distortion control, and post-weld treatment effects. Technical Expertise • Oversee and qualify processes including GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and PTAW. • Provide technical interpretation of material specifications, filler metal compatibility, and heat treatment requirements. • Ensure compliance with hardness, impact, and metallurgical requirements for critical applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or equivalent discipline • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred. • Minimum 5 years of welding engineering experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or energy equipment environment. • Demonstrated proficiency with ASME IX, AWS D1.1, and API standards relevant to pressure-containing and structural fabrication. • Experience with overlay/inlay and hardfacing processes required. • Familiarity with machining, fabrication, and coating processes a plus.
