Overview
Provide welding and project engineering support to services operations primarily throughout the Western Hemisphere but also globally as needed. Develop and maintain quality procedures, processes, and documentation. Act as SME support to sales and operations teams. Ensure internal and external expectations are met. Assist with operations and managing projects. Be actively involved as an industry recognized SME.
Responsibilities Operational Tasks:
- Ensures planning, execution, and management of assigned ancillary projects.
- Works with sales to develop costing and estimates for welding services projects through work scope definition, gathering internal and contractor/supplier pricing information.
- Preparing proposals, coordinating with various departments prior to and including submission, customer presentations, project development, implementation, execution, monitoring costs, change orders and material procurement to ensure timely and within-budget completion.
- Submits timely project updates, progress reports, and cost trends.
- Assists engineering, safety, and other departments with projects as assigned.
- Assists with scheduling equipment and personnel for welding services to ensure adequate manpower and equipment for timely completion.
- Assists with coordinating work of field welders on job sites and ensures a harmonious and productive working atmosphere.
- Assists with set-up and maintenance of contractors and suppliers.
- Prepares engineering and jurisdictional approval packages.
- Assists and/or acts as welding services quality assurance manager with upkeep of Canadian and US quality management systems; revises and creates new procedures/processes/documents as needed with focus on continuous improvement.
- Assists with training and qualification of welders and other welding services personnel as required.
- Maintains jurisdictional certificate of authorization permits, contractor licenses, and other company certifications.
- Assists with coordination and oversight of shop welding and maintenance (e.g. welding of lifting lugs to components, flanged closures, traps, spools, fittings, and other misc. equipment/shop maintenance).
- Leads and assists with internal and external audits.
- Serves as technical advisor for welding services operations.
- Provides technical assistance to commercial department and subcontract sources, when called upon, providing acceptable solutions within the scope of product/project requirements, such as cost, codes, and specifications.
- Develops welding procedures, procedure qualification records, installation procedures, data sheets, and specifications for in-service welding activities.
- Develops and designs in-service welding tests and procedures.
- Substantiates testing through creation of procedure qualification records in compliance with applicable standards, codes, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts subcontractor and site audits to ensure competency of in-service welding programs.
- Monitors welders/equipment quality standards, investigates problems and recommends corrective actions.
- Gains a thorough understanding of all aspects of project management with respect to products, ancillary services, applicable local/international regulations, codes, design standards, customer relations and field coordination with contractors.
- Performs research and development on new developments in machinery, equipment, procedures, and techniques to reduce cost, increase quality and/or expand capabilities.
- Involved in industry groups, code committees, JIP’s, etc. acting as SME on behalf of the company.
- Degree in Engineering and ability to perform engineering analysis and calculations.
- At least 5 years of experience in welding procedure development and QA/QC related functions; must have experience with oil and gas pipelines and facilities.
- In-service welding experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable US codes, standards, regulators, and regulations (e.g. API 1104, ASME B31.4, B31.8, PCC-2, NBIC, CFR, PHMSA, ASME B31.3, B31.1, Section IX, Section VIII-1, API 650, API 653, API 2201).
- Experience with quality management systems and jurisdictional audits.
- Good oral and written communication skills; must be fluent in English.
- Positive attitude, high attention to detail, strong leadership qualities, ability to work in a dynamic team environment, well organized, and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to travel internationally (must either have or be able to obtain a passport).
- Class 5 driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain HSE tickets and certificates.
- Experience with TDW products and services.
- ABSA Welding Examiner certification.
- CSA W178.2 Level 1 or 2 Welding Inspector or equivalent (e.g. AWS CWI).
- Knowledge of international codes, standards and regulations (e.g., CSA Z662, CSA B51, British/European/Australian codes and standards, ABSA, TSSA, TSASK, TSBC, Alberta Safety Codes Act and Regulations).
- CWB Retained Engineer and/or Supervisor including experience with associated welding data sheets, qualifications, and quarterly audits.
- Structural welding knowledge and experience, familiar with CSA W47.1 and W59.
- Experience with welding research and development, PRCI and/or JIP’s.
- Involved in code committees and/or related industry groups (e.g. AWS, CWA, NACE, CEPA, MARIOS, AWOC, etc.).
- Traps (launchers and receivers) design, use and/or fabrication experience.
