Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Reporting to the Supervisor, Mobile Maintenance, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing a full range of maintenance, repair, and service activities on heavy mobile equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Fabricate, overhaul, or modify parts of equipment (e.g., cut, shape, machine, and weld) within time frames outlined in the maintenance schedule;

- Weld, cut, grind, and gouge using a variety of different welding techniques and tools of the trade.

- Use the overhead crane to position buckets and heavy equipment;

- Keep work areas and equipment clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis and conduct safety audits as per company policy;

- Perform preventative maintenance (e.g., oil, grease, adjust, clean, etc.) to achieve desired equipment availability;

- Repair equipment within planned time frames as indicated in work orders;

- Conduct equipment inspections in response to Operator concerns or as outlined by the maintenance schedule and detect and diagnose troubles (e.g., vibration, heat, odour, abnormal instrument response);

- Enter detailed reports on maintenance, repairs, and diagnosis into the preventative and predictive maintenance database prior to the end of each shift;

- Provide sufficient details about repairs so that others can understand what work has been done on the equipment;

- Complete other related work as assigned by the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Hand, or Senior Managers;

- As required, help develop Apprentices, including delegating tasks or projects that will assist with their skill development, so the individual can provide greater support and meet apprenticeship requirements; and

- Operate mobile equipment – specifically aerial work platforms and scissor lifts, bobcats, front end loaders as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

- Interprovincial red seal journeyman Welder certification;

- CWB SMAW/GMAW/FCAW certification would be considered an asset;

- Experience with carbon arc airing/gouging/cutting;

- Experience using overhead cranes and rigging;

- Line boring or machining would be considered an asset;

- At least 3 years of experience working as a Welder in an industrial mine setting;

- Ability to install, maintain, weld and repair industrial mobile equipment and components;

- Experience with UG mobile equipment is desirable;

- The ability to fabricate would be considered an asset;

- Excellent oral, written and active-listening skills; and

- Highly effective organizational, time management and analytical skills.

Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off - 10-hour shifts.
