The Welder will assist with the following: prepare, weld, and fabricate metal structures and components. Furthermore, he/she will be responsible for reading and interpreting drawings, welding pieces/filling gaps as required, and ensuring the integrity of finished products. The Hardbander will assist with the following: will be responsible for the welding process that involves depositing a layer of hard metal onto drill pipe tool joints, collars, and heavy weight pipe in order to protect the drill string components from wear associated with drilling practices.
· Under the supervision of the Welder Shop Manager, the Welder/Hardbander will assist with the following:
· Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
· Set up components for welding according to specifications
· Operate angle grinders and/or other tools in order to prepare the part(s) that must be welded
· Align components using calipers, rulers, clamp pieces, etc.
· Weld components using applicable welding equipment in various positions as needed
· Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps as required
· Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
· Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
· Must have experience with mig, stick, air carbon arc gouging, hand torch work, and general torch skills
· Must be able to weld, fabricate, layout, and assemble parts and machinery accurately from engineered drawings or verbal direction
· Must be able to read, understand, and implement welding process specifications, part drawings, and related documentation
· Must be able to perform preventative maintenance on applicable equipment when needed
· Perform hardbanding and hardbanding repair services using Duraband, Tuff Band, and any other wire as required by customer specification
· Perform grinding services as needed to remove chunking or repair damaged hardbands
· Ensure traceability on all pipe worked on and review Job Packets to ensure compliance with customer specifications
· Understand and follow SOP for hardbanding tool joints
· Heat tool joints up to required SOP temperatures
· Ensure drill pipe and hardband meets dimensional requirements
· Keep track of wire usage and joints hardbanded
· Test and inspect hardbanded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
· Must have hands-on experience as a hardbander/welder
· Must be able to operate lifting equipment such as overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts
· High school diploma or GED is preferred
· 1-2 years’ experience in the machining industry with a knowledge of fabrication, mechanics, drafting, and other related fields preferred
· 1-2 years of manufacturing or oilfield experience is preferred
· Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations
· Ability to walk and stand on concrete surfaces
· Ability to stand for long periods of time, reaching, lifting, and bending
· Lifting/pushing objects weighing over 50 lbs. on occasion
