Position Title: Tool & Die Maker Position Status: Nonexempt
Department: Tool Room Position Reports to: Tool Room Supervisor
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: Build & repair tools for punch and brake presses in a short-to medium-run job shop in the metal stamping and fabrication industry. Make simple to complex forming, semi-permanent and/or progressive dies.
Perform simple to complex layout work and jig boring.
May perform or aid set-up activities to make quality parts.
Actively promote and maintain a safe work environment.
Notify supervisor or lead person of problems, concerns or questions.
Keep work area clean and free of hazards.
Follow special job instructions as communicated by supervisor or lead person and as on job
Other duties as assigned by supervisor or lead person.
High school diploma/equivalent; prefer completion of related technical school course.
Strong working knowledge of shop math, including trigonometry.
Capable of building/repairing tools from part’s blueprint or minimum work instruction.
Ability to read and interpret parts’ blueprints.
Ability to read and understand English as required for interpreting job cards and prints.
Self-motivated; takes initiative for quality and safety.
Can follow work directions and safety requirements.
Willing & able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ideally, 5 years minimum experience making stage tooling; 1-2 years minimum experience
Short to medium run job shop in air conditioned metal stamping/fabrication manufacturing
Level: Works with minimum level of supervision, while understanding and working within the priorities of the plant and its customers.
