The 2nd Shift (VTL) Operator – Machinist II will be responsible for the following:
- Machine large components to specifications using Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) equipment
- Read blueprints, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work
- Perform dimensional layout and in-process inspections to confirm conformance to prints and routing instructions; complete required documentation (job card sign-off, SIS sheets, computer entry, etc.)
- Align and secure large castings or forgings using chucks, clamps, fixtures, and overhead cranes
- Load and touch off tooling applicable to VTL operations
- Monitor feed and speed of machines during machining process and adjust offsets (wear, geometry, cutter comp, work shift, etc.)
- Identify surface finishes and ensure required tolerances are achieved on large diameter parts
- Deburr and stamp parts to specifications
- Operate overhead cranes and lifting devices safely to move heavy materials
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment including chip removal and housekeeping
- Operate VTL equipment independently with little to no guidance, including setup
- Use advanced trade mathematics, complicated drawings, specifications, and precision measuring instruments
- Observe all PPE requirements and safety rules including machining guards and safe lifting techniques
- Complete all other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma / GED from an accredited institution
- Minimum 2 years of machining experience; VTL or large-part machining experience preferred, particularly in oil & gas or heavy manufacturing
- Advanced knowledge of precision measuring tools including micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and depth measuring equipment
- Experience operating overhead cranes and handling large/heavy components
- Ability to read, evaluate, and respond to complex product specifications and drawings
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and perform prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
- Certification to operate forklift, pallet jack, and crane
- Vo-Tech Certificate preferred
