Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Virtual Trader to join our dynamic financial team. In this role, you will be responsible for trading in the ISO/RTO electricity markets (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, NYISO, SPP) using virtual transactions. The role involves analyzing supply-and-demand dynamics, transmission constraints, market prices, and regulatory factors to optimize trading strategies without physical asset ownership. This position is highly performance driven.
- Analyze day-ahead and real-time electricity markets
- Trade virtual power positions (e.g., virtual bids/offers)
- Monitor load forecasts, generation availability, outages, and congestion
- Evaluate market fundamentals including fuel prices, weather forecasts, and renewables output
- Identify arbitrage opportunities across nodes, hubs, and time intervals
- Manage risk exposure related to price volatility and congestion
- Track market performance and prepare profit-and-loss (P&L) reports
- Ensure compliance with ISO/RTO market rules and trading limits
- Back-test and refine trading strategies using historical power market data
- Coordinate with analysts, schedulers, or risk teams as required
- Strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets and power economics
- Knowledge of ISO/RTO markets (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, NYISO, SPP)
- Experience with virtual trading concepts (virtual supply/demand, INCs/DECs)
- Proficiency in data analysis and market modeling
- Solid grasp of congestion, locational marginal pricing (LMP), and settlement processes
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote or virtual environment
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, Finance, or related field
- Experience with power market software and analytics tools
- Familiarity with weather modeling and load forecasting
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks (FERC, NERC standards)
- Programming skills (Python, SQL, R) for market analysis and automation
- ISO/RTO market platforms and bidding interfaces
- Power market analytics software (e.g., Yes Energy, Enverus)
