Position Summary
Serve as lead of the deck department, leading Able Seamen and deck crew while coordinating, performing, and overseeing deck operations across global offshore operations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead daily deck operations and assign tasks to ABs and deck crew.
- Oversee deck maintenance, preservation of painted surfaces, and line upkeep.
- Coordinate emergency response duties and ensure readiness of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
- Conduct deck watches, safety watches, and support navigational operations when assigned.
- Oversee third-party inspections and maintenance activities, reporting findings to the Chief Officer.
- Measure water depth and relay critical navigational information to the bridge.
- Overhaul lifeboats, rescue boats, and associated gear; supervise their launch and recovery.
- Splice, repair, and maintain ropes, wires, and deck rigging.
- Ensure deck crew compliance with SMS procedures and safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Plan and oversee lift operations involving vessel cranes following approved safe work practices.
- Conduct and document routine crane checks ensuring equipment readiness.
- Perform or oversee minor crane repairs and troubleshooting.
- Three to five years of deck operations experience with at least one year in a leadership role.
- Valid Merchant Mariner’s Credential with Bosun or AB Unlimited Endorsement.
- STCW-95 certification with RFPNW.
- Knowledge of SMS shipboard procedures.
- Valid TWIC card.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Vocational maritime or leadership training.
- Global offshore vessel experience.
- Crane certification including knuckle boom crane certification.
- Ability to lead and coordinate deck teams effectively.
- Proficiency in deck machinery, rigging, and safe work practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and set operational priorities.
- Commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to build and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Working Conditions
This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows.
- Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
- Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
- Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
- Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
- Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
- Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
