The term of this appointment will be a maximum of 24 months. All persons hired into Limited Term (LT) positions will be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying conditions of employment.

HOURS OF WORK: 4/10’s, shift to be determined based on operational needs

The ideal candidate for this position will have education and/or experience in the water treatment or other utility; will know how to follow directions, compute mathematical equations related to water treatment and prepare reports; will be able to troubleshoot problems with water treatment equipment; have an understanding of SCADA; and the ability to communicate effectively with others; a Nevada State Treatment Operator I certification is desirable.

INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.


GENERAL PURPOSE

Under supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled duties in a structured on-the-job training program to become a Treatment Operator I; and performs related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge of:

Basic operating principles and methods of pumps, valves, electric motors, diesel engines and electronic, computerized and manual control systems; basic functions and servicing requirements of a potable water treatment facility; basic principles, methods, practices and techniques utilized in chemical, bacteriological and biological analyses; safety practices and procedures pertaining to the work.


Ability to:

Learn the operation of a variety of pumping, treatment, control and transmission equipment and machinery, including digital control equipment and micro-computers; accurately read meters, gauges, valve books, blueprints and schematic drawings; make mathematic calculations, including metrics; establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work; work without close supervision when assigned and exercise sound judgment in performing assigned duties; understand and follow oral and written instructions; prepare basic records and reports of work performed; operate and maintain hand and power tools pertaining to the work.


Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school and additional education at the post high school level in chemistry, biology or water treatment technology.


Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid Nevada driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Nevada State Health Division Treatment Operator I certification.

Physical Demands

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Employees in this class are required to wear respirators regularly. In accordance with OSHA regulations, employees are prohibited from having facial or head hair that impairs the effectiveness of respirator equipment.
