Are you in? Primary Purpose:
Operate the electric system, under the general supervision of the Shift Manager and Sr. Transmission System Operator using various computer systems. Optimize the practices, policies, procedures, and programs to operate electric system using computer systems in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner with the welfare of employees, customers, the public and shareholders in mind. Respond to all electrical service maintenance and issues involving electrical transmission and distribution. Monitor and analyze system data to ensure optimal functioning of equipment and keep supervisors apprised of abnormal system conditions. Direct operating company field personnel during the planned and emergent maintenance and construction electric systems switching activities and seek assistance as appropriate following safety rules and Permit and Tagging guidelines. Maintain and apply a working knowledge of the Exelon Management Model for business controls and meet management's expectation for conducting effective business. Responsible for successful completion all applicable classroom and on-job training and passing qualification board review. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
- Understands and implements PJM, and Exelon Transmission, Distribution, and Substation Safety, Permit and Tagging, TSO, DSO and Joint Operating Orders, and Switching requirements.
- Performs load studies and analyzes faulted equipment.
- Directs planned switching of operating company field personnel and resolves electrical transmission and distribution system problems during shift operations.
- Directs and monitors operating company field personnel and others on switching and repair job activities following all Safety rules and Permit & Tagging guidelines.
- Responds to emergent conditions, implementing PJM directed emergency procedures (TSO), and switching coordinated, complex, and complicated planned jobs. Contacts customer representatives regarding customer substation work and coordinates electric system operations with PJM RTO and other utilities.
- Contacts operating company field personnel and others for support and assistance.
- Performs analysis of data and operations of electric system using Computer Systems.
- Receives and completes classroom, on-line, and on-the-job training on PJM, Transmission, Distribution, and Substation Safety, Permit & Tagging, Operating Computer Systems, etc.
- Subject to shift, holiday, weekend, call-in work and is required to work during emergencies.
- Functional control over various operating, construction, testing, customer and contractor groups in the performance of limited electrical switching, repair, testing and related work activities involving lines, transformers, and other equipment under the jurisdiction of the Shift Manager. The different groups include overhead operating, overhead and underground maintenance and distribution testing, substation construction and maintenance.
- The consequences of operating errors or improper system operation could cost the company millions of dollars in direct, indirect and intangible costs such as the loss of customer good will, damaged company equipment, damaged customer equipment and damage to the company's public image.
- Independent judgment is essential in making the real time decisions necessary to maintain the integrity, reliability and security of the company's electric transmission and distribution system.
- Successful completion of requirements of a Transmission System Operator I; OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technical field and a minimum of 2 years of engineering job experience; OR Associates degree in technical field AND a minimum of 4 years technical job experience; OR High school diploma or equivalent AND a minimum of 6 years experience in electrical construction and maintenance.
- Understanding of the electric transmission and distribution systems. Ability to recognize system configuration, loading, and pressure issues. Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of proper operating procedures.

- Candidate must be "Recommended" on the System Operator / Power Dispatch (SOPD) test to be eligible for consideration.
- Candidate must successfully complete all necessary training and successfully pass all applicable tests required to fill this role including the NERC and PJM certifications and board reviews. Candidates are provided one opportunity to retest before being classified as unsuccessful in the program and unable to perform the required functions of this position.
- Successful completion of requirements of a Transmission System Operator I.
- Bachelor's Degree Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum 2 years of job experience in the electrical field.
- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $87,200.00/Yr. – $119,900.00/Yr.
