Basic Metals, Inc. is a privately held metals service center specializing in the distribution of stainless steel and aluminum products. With locations in Wisconsin and Arizona, we are dedicated to providing high-quality products and reliable service to manufacturers and fabricators across the country.
The Traffic Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day clerical and scheduling functions related to outbound and inbound freight for Basic Metals, Inc. This role is responsible for preparing and managing receiving paperwork, printing bills of lading, and coordinating shipments on company trucks as well as third-party carriers (truckload and LTL). While the position is primarily clerical, it also includes opportunities to support strategic initiatives such as carrier negotiations and process improvements.
· Prepare and process receiving paperwork for inbound materials.
· Print and manage bills of lading (BOLs) and other shipping documentation.
· Coordinate and schedule outbound shipments on Basic Metals trucks, third-party truckloads, and LTL carriers.
· Schedule inbound delivery appointments and coordinate with vendors.
· Work closely with the Director of Commercial Operations to align driver schedules and routing.
· Support strategic projects such as route efficiency improvements, cost reduction, and 3PL optimization.
· Assist with carrier negotiations and maintaining strong relationships with logistics partners.
· Ensure accurate recordkeeping and compliance with all company policies and transportation regulations.
· Provide freight coordination support to all Basic Metals facilities.
· Experience in traffic coordination, logistics, or distribution within a manufacturing or service center environment.
· Strong knowledge of freight modes (truckload, LTL, company fleet) and logistics operations.
· Experience with shipping paperwork, bills of lading, and freight documentation.
· Proficient with ERP systems, TMS software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Detail-oriented with strong clerical accuracy and efficiency.
· Bachelor’s degree not required — equivalent work experience strongly considered.
