Job Title: Shift Supervisor Department: Terminal Operations Location: Prince Rupert, British Columbia Reporting to: Terminal Manager Provides Supervision to: Rail & Barge Operations Team Position Type: Full-Time


Purpose of the Role/Role Overview

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the day’s activities and operations targets are met in a safe and environmentally reliable manner. The Shift Supervisor will accomplish this by assisting in all areas of daily operations, as needed, to ensure operational success, ensuring environmental and safety policies are upheld, and customer satisfaction is exceeded.


General Duties/Key Responsibilities

· Direct all aspects of the day-to-day operation, including process review, managing daily plant operation and distribution activities, and all reporting requirements.

· When required, assist Rail & Barge Operators in the performance of oil transfer activities.

· Monitor daily workload and staff assignments, review progress, direct changes in priorities as needed to ensure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner.

· Support, and when required, perform all aspects of the day-to-day operation including but not limited to the movement of rail cars, draining of railcars, handling lines and other duties as may be required and determined by the Terminal Manager.

· Perform tailgate meetings with the crew, outlining daily activities and hazard mitigations.

· Perform training and mentoring of terminal personnel to maintain operational knowledge, as directed by the Terminal Manager.

· Leadership of safety processes with responsibility for the shift’s overall safety performance.

· Coordinate safety and emergency response as needed.

· Participate in the company's Quality Management program, Emergency Response Drills, and follows requirements of the Facility Security Plan, as needed.

· Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure all products and services meet superior performance expectations while achieving all contractual specifications.

· Work with the Terminal Manager to identifying employee performance issues and opportunities.

· Lead, motivate, and support individual and team growth through engagement discussions.

· Monitor environmental regulations/requirements and report any non-compliances to the Operations & Safety Coordinator or the Terminal Manager.


· Support effective incident reporting and investigations.

· Support budget process and promote cost saving initiatives.

· Coordinate and coach team members to troubleshoot operational issues and develop solutions.

· Communicate and provide leadership in promoting compliance to facility production targets.

· Ensure all Wolverine assets and their housekeeping is kept to high standards.

· Work with the Operations & Safety Coordinator and/or Terminal Manager to plan daily operational activities between Wolverine Terminals and various Stakeholders.

· Complete and/or verify daily reports ensuring accuracy and correct reporting to various stakeholders and Wolverine Terminals Offices.

· Supervise, direct, and oversee third party services as needed.

· Work closely with Marine Engineers by identifying corrective actions, hazards, work orders, issuing work permits, verifying work plans, and ensuring LOTO procedures are adhered to.

· Establish a course of action for self and/or others to accomplish specific goals.

· Plan and prioritize proper assignments of personnel and/or appropriate allocation of resources.


Leadership

· Utilize appropriate interpersonal styles and methods in guiding individuals/departments (direct reports, peers, supervisors/managers) or groups toward task accomplishment.

· Support the already established performance goals for staff, coaching performance, providing training, and evaluating performance.

· Consistently adhere to Wolverine policies and procedures and be a positive example for others by demonstrating the Company’s core values.


Analysis

· Identify problems and/or cause-effect relationships, and key issues and secure relevant information from all appropriate sources to identify possible root causes of problems and develop and implement corrective actions for resolution of problems.


Computer Applications

· Operate a computer at a functional level as it relates to software programs utilized.


Duties - Quality

· Works closely with the third-party QC service provider by arranging product inspections as needed.

· Collects, sorts, and inputs data to support Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).


Education, Certifications and/or Work Experience Requirements

· Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated supervisory experience working with oil transfer operations, fuel barge operations, or marine engineers.

· 5-10 years, well-rounded experience in rail, marine, or oil & gas operations.

· Must hold valid SOTO Certification. (Note: If the successful candidate does not have this certification, they will be required to obtain and maintain the certification.)

· Experience managing Marine Emergency Duties.

· Must pass applicable Marine Medical.

· Holds valid Marine First Aid certification.

· Demonstrated experience using supervisory principles and practices; management of change; and practices, principles, procedures, regulations, and techniques as they relate to all functional areas.

· Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

· Strong interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

· Demonstrated attention to detail.

· Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.

· Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.

· Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.

· Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.


Working Environment and/or Physical Requirements

· Successfully pass all pre-employment screening, including and not limited to medical and alcohol & drug testing as deemed applicable by Wolverine Terminals and/or Transport Canada Marine and Rail.

· Work outdoors for an extended periods in adverse weather conditions.

· Work rotating shift patterns, up to and including 12-hour day/nights, weekends, and holidays.

· Employee must Must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, provincial, or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.

· Must be able to survey and inspect facilities, work areas, and work processes, under varying weather and temperature conditions and while wearing all required PPE.

· May be required to climb steps and ladders to access and inspect facilities and work.

· Walking, bending, and stooping may be required on a routine basis. Lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required.

· Must adhere to company Alcohol & Drug policies.
