Department Overview

The Coworkers of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Summary: The Technical Training Specialist develops and delivers training, and emergency simulation drills for Transmission Operations (TO). Technical Training is a central point of support for the Grid Operations, Transmission and Substation departments. The incumbents work interdepartmentally within Transmission Operations to manage risk and ensure regulatory training compliance via the initiatives, projects, reports, drills, simulations, and training programs the group produces.

The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.

The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. ​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Pay Range: Minimum: $118,00

Midpoint: $153,00

Maximum: $188,00

Responsibilities:

Develops, facilitates and manages the 5-year training plan, based on regulatory requirements and business needs. Receives training requests from departments and incorporates into tactical plans and schedules to facilitate delivery of training. Leads the TO training governance process. Creates and delivers executive presentations for training governance and status reports. Manages the training profiles assigned to all Transmission Ops employees. Develops programs to ensure transmissions operations personnel are trained per compliance requirements and work processes. Project manages training initiatives, develops curriculum, and conducts instruction.

Creates delivery models, executes delivery, and tracks completion of training for compliance purposes. Evaluates training monitoring systems and cost effective options for training development and delivery. Develops processes for ensuring training is completed and a tracking mechanism to verify or prove training has taken place for audit purposes. Maintains knowledge of regulatory compliance as it relates to training standards. Stays abreast of new tools being introduced in the line of business.

Participates in industry forums to identify training best practices. May chair internal or external working groups on standards. Gathers feedback on an ongoing basis to ensure that the functional elements of the training meet the client department’s needs. Communicates widely across the organization, championing the importance for managers to prioritize training for safety and compliance purposes.

Manages the development, delivery and compliance of the annual California Energy Training Advisory Committee (CETAC) training event. May act as the NERC approved Continuing Education Administrator for PG&E. May support initiatives, such as the tailboard initiative, to provide detailed sets of instructions to execute work processes; conducts train the trainers and field classes. May collaborate with the learning academy on delivery strategies for client groups. May work with outside vendors for the development of Windows Based Training to meet regulatory training requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum:

High School Diploma or GED

Seven (7) years of total related experience including experience as an operator, system dispatcher, or field maintenance and construction experience or an equivalent amount of experience in relevant training delivery roles.

Desired:

Expert knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as FERC, NERC/WECC, CPUC, CAISO and environmental regulations.

Knowledge of Systemic Approach to Training and ADDIE Model

Proficient knowledge of Dispatch, Operating or Field Maintenance and Construction depending on area of specialization.

Excellent planning, scheduling, and coordination skills.

Expert analytical problem solving and decision making skills to develop comprehensive solutions.

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Adaptable to changing business conditions and ambiguity.

Subject-matter expertise of data analysis, benchmarking, monitoring and business/financial analysis skills.

Project management knowledge and skill.

Strong presentation, training and communication skills.
