Tax Manager (Hybrid role in Calgary) – Energy

Are you looking for your next opportunity to be part of a dynamic and growing energy company? Our Calgary based client is looking for a Tax Manager for their Calgary office.

The successful candidate will have the following:

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

·        CPA designation or equivalent

·        Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or corporate tax environment

·        Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. tax.

To excel in this position, candidates will have the following qualifications:

·        In depth knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Federal Tax Regulations

·        Experience with Tax Fixed Assets (PowerTax)

·        Experience working in a rate regulated environment

·        Ability to effectively communicate technical matters in clear simple language

This role reports into the VP Finance and Controller. As a Tax Manager, you will play an essential role in advising on tax matters, preparation of tax provisions and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

·        Preparation and review of U.S tax provisions and analysis under U.S. GAAP.

·        Work closely with external tax advisors to prepare all U.S. state and federal corporate and

partnership tax returns as well as other tax reporting requirements such as Forms 1099 and 1042

·        Monitor and analyze changes in tax legislation and advise management of potential impact on the company

·        Administration of tax sharing agreements

·        Maintenance of ACB, E&P and Surplus calculations

·        Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts

·        Liaise with external auditors

·        Respond to inquiries from tax authorities

·        Assist in preparing transfer pricing policies and documentation

·        Provide support, advice, guidance and assistance to business units

·        Recommend enhancements to the various tax functions to improve efficiency and accuracy

·        Perform ad hoc tax related duties as assigned
