Why This Internship Matters: This internship plays a meaningful role in supporting our Sustainable Building Services (SBS) team with residential sustainability certifications, including LEED for Homes, ENERGY STAR, and Passive House through a mix of field and office work. In the field, interns conduct inspections, testing and verification on multifamily buildings. In the office, interns will review construction documents, perform calculations, prepare certification submittals and track compliance requirements.
- This is an hourly paid internship. The proposed hourly rate for this position is $20.00 based on a 40-hour work schedule.
- Required Dates: Qualified candidates MUST be available for a full-time work week (40 hours) from May 18th, 2026, through August 7th, 2026.
- Office Location – Somerville, MA.
- To be considered for this role, you MUST have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Assist with field inspections and performance testing on multifamily projects, including blower door and duct leakage tests.
- Learn the fundamentals of residential green building programs through hands-on support, including data collection, research tasks, and required record keeping.
- Review architectural, mechanical and civil drawings, specifications and submittals for accuracy and certification compliance.
- Prepare and organize certification documentation, calculations and supporting materials.
- Coordinate with project teams, including architects, engineers, and contractors to support sustainability goals and verification requirements.
- Pursuing or completing a bachelor’s or master's degree in architectural engineering, architecture or buildings related field.
- 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
- Willingness to taking mass transportation and engaging in physically demanding field work.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, collaboration and communication skills.
- A valid U.S. driver’s license is required. The intern must be comfortable driving a company vehicle to construction sites throughout the Boston metro area.
- Coursework or experience in building science, energy efficiency, or high-performance residential construction.
- Familiarity with green building programs such as LEED for Homes, ENERGY STAR, HERS, Passive House, Enterprise Green Communities, or NGBS.
- On-site experience with residential or multifamily construction projects.
- Exposure to field testing or on-site verification activities.
- Experience reviewing drawings, submittals, or certification documentation.
- This internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates; Undergraduate applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university and be graduating in the Spring/Summer semester of 2026 or by Spring/Summer of 2027.

- Frequent local day travel to project sites throughout the Boston metro area.
- Ability to operate a vehicle in dense urban environments.
- Ability to use public transportation to access project sites and offices.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Approximately 60% of the duties will be performed in the field for observations and training. The remaining 40% of the duties will be performed in an office.
Approximate working hours: 9am – 5pm with flexibility for field work (earlier / later).
