Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Finishing supervisor is responsible for overseeing the entire finishing process on their shift, ensuring efficient operations, high-quality output, and timely delivery. Essential functions that this role is responsible for but not limited to, the following:
•Supervise all aspects of the finishing department on their shift, including sawing, lathe operations, heat treatment, and packaging.
•Oversee scheduling, workflow, and support the Department Manager in offering staffing/performance updates on employees to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
•Ensure all finishing tasks meet internal quality standards and customer specifications.
•Collaborate with the shipping department to coordinate the timely and accurate delivery of finished goods on their shift.
•Verify proper labeling and identification of products to meet traceability and customer requirements.
•Support the continuous improvement initiatives across the department, focusing on efficiency, safety, and cost control on their shift and offer input.
•Implement standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
•Train, mentor, and evaluate finishing department personnel on their shift to build a skilled and accountable team.
•Monitor equipment performance, plan maintenance schedules, and coordinate with maintenance to minimize operational disruptions.
•Track production metrics and prepare needed data for their manager.
Additional Responsibilities
This position requires a standard but may need a flexible work schedule that may include extended work hours as predicated by production needs. Duties take place primarily in a shop environment with a significant amount of interaction with production operations management sometimes in the office environment. The position will act as an indirect source of information on material status for manufacturing managers and supervision.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
•Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a finishing manufacturing environment, with some supervisory experience.
•Strong knowledge of finishing processes including sawing, lathe operations, heat treatment, and packaging.
•Demonstrated ability to train and lead new teams, manage workflows, and achieve production targets per shift.
•Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies a plus.
•Excellent communication and coordination skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
