Surface Preparation & Coatings Application Supervisor
Catalyst Changers Inc., a Stronghold Company, is seeking a certified Surface Preparation & Coatings Application Supervisor to join our team. This position is responsible for overseeing the preparation of surfaces and the application of coatings to various substrates, ensuring quality and safety standards are met. This role involves supervising and coordinating a team of technicians, managing workflow, and ensuring that all surface preparation and coating procedures align with industry standards and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
•Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority.
•Adhere to all applicable company, customer and legislative codes, regulations, practices, and procedures.
•Promote a positive safety culture through company values.
•Supervise daily activities of the surface preparation and coatings application team, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with safety and quality standards.
•Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for surface preparation and coating applications.
•Inspect surfaces to be coated and determine the appropriate preparation methods (e.g., abrasive blasting, chemical cleaning, etc.) to ensure proper adhesion and durability of coatings.
•Coordinate with project managers and other departments to ensure coatings are applied in accordance with project timelines and client requirements.
•Maintain and monitor inventory levels of coatings, abrasives, and other materials, ensuring timely reordering and cost control.
•Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
•Conduct regular inspections and quality checks of applied coatings, ensuring that they meet industry standards and specifications.
•Train and mentor junior staff, providing guidance on proper surface prep techniques, coating applications, safety protocols, and quality assurance practices.
•Troubleshoot issues during surface prep and coatings application processes, providing solutions to resolve challenges and minimize delays.
•Maintain and repair coating application equipment, ensuring proper functioning and minimal downtime.
•Generate reports on daily operations, progress, and challenges for management review.
•Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to suggest and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, safety, and quality.
Qualifications:
•High school diploma or equivalent; with the following technical certifications from the SSPC: SSPC C7: Certified Abrasive Blaster, SSPC C12: Spray Application, SSPC C2: Certification for Surface Preparation and Coating Application, SSPC CAS: Coating Application Specialist.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in surface preparation and coatings application, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
•In-depth knowledge of various surface preparation methods, coating types, and application techniques.
•Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO) and safety regulations.
•Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
•Proficient in using a variety of coating application tools and equipment.
•Experience with coating inspection techniques and quality control processes.
•Manufacturer-specific training for operating and maintaining sandblasting machines; must have the ability to troubleshoot common issues with equipment.
•Recognition of surface contaminants and their removal techniques.
· Working Conditions:
•This position may require working in outdoor environments and exposure to varying weather conditions.
•Work may involve exposure to chemicals, fumes, and dust, with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) provided.
