Position Overview
Substation Technicians are responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical substations and related equipment. This family of positions includes entry-level roles for those beginning their careers, as well as journeyman-level roles for experienced professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with or perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of substation equipment including transformers, breakers, switches, and control systems.
- Conduct testing and diagnostics on electrical systems and components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
- Participate in scheduled and emergency maintenance activities.
- Travel throughout the Midwest region to support various project sites.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and safely.
Entry-Level Candidates:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical training or coursework in electrical systems (preferred).
- Willingness to learn and travel.
- Strong work ethic and attention to safety.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in substation construction or maintenance.
- Proficiency in electrical testing, troubleshooting, and equipment installation.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to lead crews and mentor junior technicians.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally.
