Substation Field Engineering Intern

Position Summary

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Substation Field Engineering Organization in Colorado. This paid internship provides practical and hands-on training in the substation area which includes supporting the engineering operations. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn about other engineering organizations.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Perform AC and DC auxiliary system calculations.

- Assist with substation engineering design and maintenance tasks.

- Support Field Engineers with inspections and projects.

- Learn to use various CAD systems (MicroStation and ProjectWise).

- Assist with processes and document updates.

Minimum Requirements

- Current student, Freshman and above

- Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in one of the following fields of study: design, automation, electronics, engineering, other related field of study.

- Able to commute to the Lipan Distribution service center.

- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications

- 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher

- Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.

- Knowledge of and ability to use Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, etc.).

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.80 to $24.00 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
