The Student Intern – Facility Design & Construction will support the planning, designing and construction of physical capital assets (water/wastewater plants, pumping stations, storage and transmission facilities, and rehabilitation projects) and a broad range of other project management assignments.
- Supports the Project Manager in one or more of the following: managing planning, design or construction projects such as treatment plants, pumping stations, transmission projects, or other facilities
- Management of projects to deliver organizational, program, or corporate benefits and improvements
- Assisting a senior project manager with larger projects
- Under the guidance of the Project Manager, consults and works with team members from various internal organizations, in the administration of consultant, Architect/Engineer (A/E), and construction contracts and their associated procurement mechanisms
- Supports project manager in reviewing project technical, management, and budgetary plans ensuring project compliance with corporate policy and technical specifications
- Assists in reviewing and approving monthly and final payments to A/E’s, contractors, and vendors
- Participates in project teams, including management review, re-engineering, and policy groups
- Assists with reviews, negotiations, and finalization of contracts and change orders
- Assists with preparation or monitoring of project schedules using PERT, CPM, Bar Chart, or other methods
- Participates in meetings and assists with reviewing and preparing meeting notes Assists with development and implementation of project management strategic plans and resultant monitoring mechanisms
- Ability to climb ladders, and work in confined spaces and elevated locations
- Ability to hear audible alarms and abnormal equipment noises
- Ability to visually inspect equipment and processes any time of day or night
- Good physical condition, particularly absence of respiratory and back problems
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and AutoCAD
- Strong computer knowledge and organizational skills
- Positive/ambitious attitude, ability to effectively interact with stakeholders such as consultants, contractors and internal staff
College student pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or other related discipline
