Staff Accountant applies well-established accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices to the accounting treatment of financial transactions. Within the limits of delegated responsibility, demonstrates mastery of accounting in the performance of assignments and in the resolution of complex problems. The position is also responsible for providing analysis and advice regarding accounting programs and/or financial management matters. Work is performed with limited supervision and work is reviewed by supervisor solely for soundness of overall approach, feasibility of recommendations and adherence to project assignments(s).
The Staff Accountant supports a broad variety of accounting functions and works independently at and expert level with minimal supervision; may include all or a subset of the following.
Performs a wide range of activities in fixed asset management, specifically in areas of accountability, recording, reporting and problem resolution.
Performs complex account reconciliation and account analysis; defines problem or issue, interprets and conducts comprehensive analysis which may include data trends, deviation from standards. May be involved in forecasting and cost benefit analysis.
Reviews, records and reports financial transactions in accordance to established accounting principles (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles - GAAP), policies, and objectives.
Develops nonstandard reports and statements, i.e. those containing cash forecasts reflecting the interrelations of accounting, cost budgeting, or comparable information.
Prepares financial information for submittal of the financial statement and closing activities.
Implements and monitors policies and procedures in assigned program area to ensure achievement of management objectives.
Uses judgment and professional knowledge to assess, investigate and analyze unusual problems or complete projects in the absence of guidelines, policies and or procedures.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Senior Accountant.
Key Working Relationships: Interacts with co-workers throughout the Authority.
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an
individual to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university or college
Good working knowledge of automated financial systems, specifically Oracle Cloud ERP
Ability to work independently in a project-oriented environment.
Utilizes personal computer and maintains working knowledge of Oracle Cloud ERP and other applicable software programs including MS office skills i.e. Word, Excel skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
