The position is a senior technical leadership role established to strengthen and scale the company’s process chemistry capabilities, with primary emphasis on desalting and refinery process treatment programs. The role provides strategic technical direction, institutional knowledge, and advanced problem-solving expertise to support consistent, data-driven application of process chemistry across laboratory, field, and commercial activities. Serving as a technical authority and mentor, they will guide development of treatment philosophies, KPIs, standardized application methods, and laboratory testing frameworks, while supporting innovation initiatives with suppliers and toll manufacturers working with the Director of Supply Chain. The role plays a key part in developing training resources and mentoring field personnel, ensuring technical rigor, consistency, and long-term capability growth across the organization. This position is structured as an advisory role that complements subject matter experts and field technologists, providing additional technical depth and continuity to support effective day-to-day execution across the organization.

Key Responsibilities


- Technical Strategy & Program Development

- Support the technical build-out and evolution of the process chemistry product portfolio.

- Help define desalting and process treatment philosophies, including KPIs, performance metrics, and standardized methods of application.

- Provide technical oversight and guidance on complex process chemistry challenges.


- Innovation & Supplier Collaboration

- Support innovation initiatives in collaboration with suppliers and toll manufacturers.

- Evaluate new chemistries, technologies, and application approaches for process treatment programs.


- Laboratory & Testing Leadership

- Support the setup, optimization, and long-term operation of desalter bench-top testing equipment by developing testing protocols, evaluation methods, and training to enable 3rd party lab to independently run and interpret tests results.

- Help identify any additional laboratory testing capabilities required to be successful.


- Field Support & Trials

- Develop and support field desalter trials, including protocol development, execution guidance, data interpretation, and technical recommendations.

- Provide advanced technical support to Field Technologists and SMEs, serving as an additional layer of expertise for problem solving and program optimization.


- Training & Knowledge Transfer

- Develop technical training materials and resources related to process chemistry and desalting.

- Provide training and mentorship to field personnel to strengthen technical depth and consistency across the organization.


- Marketing & Commercial Support

- Support development of technical content for marketing materials, product overviews, and value propositions in collaboration with Marketing and Portfolio Directors.

- Leverage industry experience and professional relationships to support technical credibility, coordinating through the Commercial VP for alignment and messaging.


Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field

- 20+ years of industry experience

- Strong operational and technical understanding of customer processes

- Experience with product development and technical support (product & application) for Process Additives


Preferred

- Understanding of industry sales process including experience leading field sales teams & conducting corporate sales activities

- Experience creating training materials and conducting training classes

- Established network within refinery and downstream sectors (customer and supplier)

- Previous experience launching a new regional operation or business line
