SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

JOB TITLE: Sr. System Engineer REQUISITION ID: INF00EP DEPARTMENT: IT Data Center – Topeka General Office LOCATION: Topeka, KS and work from home days PAY RANGE: $84,500 - $112,600

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

This position plays a key role in the deployment, design, installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of Linux based infrastructure. The role also contributes to the installation, upgrade, support, and configuration of core infrastructure systems alongside cross functional teams.

Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and resilient Linux and storage solutions.

- Support and troubleshoot SSSD, Kerberos, LDAP/AD integration, and identity related issues.

- Perform physical and virtual server provisioning, installation, hardware configuration, and ongoing maintenance.

- Contribute to SAN storage operations, including configuration, capacity management, and incident resolution.

- Infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible and AWX.

- Monitor the performance and availability of physical and virtual workloads using observability and log aggregation platforms.

- Respond to incidents and service requests in collaboration with business partners and peers.

- Gather requirements with a consultant mindset and recommend solution architectures in partnership with peers and business units to achieve company goals.

Education and Experience Requirements:

- Ideal candidate has the following:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

AND

- 3 – 5+ years of Linux systems administration experience managing production server environments.

The following certifications and skills are a plus:

- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)

- Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation

- Vendor-specific storage certifications.

- Experience managing virtualization platforms and cloud environments.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

- Strong understanding of systemd, networking fundamentals, and Linux security concepts.

- Configure and troubleshoot Linux networking using NetworkManager, including static IP configuration, VLANs, bonding, and routing.

- Working knowledge of Ansible, YAML, and automation workflows (AWX/AAP).

- Familiarity with patching processes, maintenance windows, and enterprise change control.

- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise documentation and communicate effectively across cross functional teams.

- Working knowledge of business goals, IT standards, strategy, and service level agreements.

- Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels, technical and non technical.

- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with other teams and departments.

- Effective contributor within project teams.

- Demonstrates initiative by identifying alternative or innovative solutions to technical challenges.

- Strong planning and organizational skills; able to complete projects on time and within budget.

- Exercises sound judgment and decision making.

- Adapts quickly to multiple demands and rapidly changing priorities.
