JOB SUMMARY

TheSr Safety Specialist provides leadership, direction, and guidance regarding Personnel Safety, Industrial Hygiene and Emergency Response to Hazardous Materials. This role performs a variety of technical and administrative work in implementation, planning, and leading the Refinery’s Industrial Hygiene and Safety Programs and is the Subject Matter Expert in the field of Emergency Management of Hazardous Materials for the Refinery. This role serves as the key contact within the refinery regarding regulatory knowledge and interpretation, risk management methods and best practices for the Refinery. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, meeting training obligations and advancing the Refinery Industrial Hygiene and Personnel Safety.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

4 year / Bachelor's Degree (Required)
In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Four (4) or more years Experience in a related field (Required)
Required CertIfications/Licensures: (Valid driver’s license)


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Manage Gas detection equipment and programs
Manage the Radiation Safety Program and serve as Primary Radiation Safety Officer for the Refinery,
Working knowledge and understanding of regulations governing occupational safety, specifically OSHA 29-CFR-1910 and 1926 and industry standards such as API, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, ASME, and ANSI
Attend and present safety information at Staff meetings, Contractor Safety Meetings, etc.
Physical ability to work on and around industrial equipment, including climbing of stairs, ladders and in confined spaces , Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, hearing protection, respirator)
Some travel required in assigned region. Occasional overnight may be required., Possible incident investigations could require working in a variety of weather conditions
Provide expert guidance and counseling on safety related issues for day to day refinery activities by participating in safety meetings, audits and training
Apply specific regulatory knowledge and work closely with refinery personnel and management to assure regulatory compliance
Conduct incident investigations, prepare written incident investigation reports, and assists in development of corrective actions
Maintain, organize and report safety KPIs including leading and lagging indicators for measurement of refinery safety performance
May need to act as lead during incident management
Participate as an active member of the Refinery’s Advanced Emergency Response Team
Participate in or on related committees and teams i.e., Joint Health and Safety Team, VPP Committee, Turnaround and Project Team planning committees
