ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Assist with the investigation of accidents and incidents, including such things as property damage, near-misses and employee reports of hazards and ensure that all necessary forms and paperwork are filled out to completion in a timely manner.
•Assist with the coordination and execution of the company’s crisis management plan
•Conduct hazard analyses that include hazard detection and plans for prevention or control whenever new equipment or materials are designed, purchased or used, and whenever new procedures/processes are developed and report findings to the Safety Supervisor
•Provide support with the inspection of facilities, tools, equipment and vehicles every week and make recommendations as needed to bring these assets into compliance as needed and report findings to the Safety Supervisor.
•Maintain proper safety records and submit applicable forms, reports and correspondence to the proper agencies and companies, ensuring that all applicable health hazards, safety, and transportation recordkeeping requirements are met.
•Provide support to and assist the Safety Supervisor, Managers and supervisors in investigating accidents and incidents such as property damage, near-misses and employee reports of hazards, and ensure that all necessary forms and paperwork are filled out to completion in a timely manner. Coordinate with the Safety Supervisor to conduct and assist with safety training, including developing presentations and safety materials as needed.
•Assist management to ensure that appropriate health hazards, safety, and transportation rules are developed, communicated and understood, providing technical support and assistance as needed.
•Assist Safety Supervisor with keeping management advised of all significant safety, health hazards, and transportation developments, including the status and results of hazard evaluations, inspections, and accident investigations, and any serious problems or deficiencies.
•Stay informed of and be able to interpret laws and standards dealing with employee health hazards, safety, and transportation.
•Coordinate with Safety Supervisor on hazard analyses that include hazard detection and plans for prevention or control whenever new equipment or materials are designed, purchased or used, and whenever new procedures/processes are developed.
•Coordinate the employee light duty or transitional duty work program for the Gillette store and provide back-up to the other company locations.
•Provide functional supervision for any and all employees as indicated for safety issues.
•Coordinate with the Safety Supervisor to assist in the development of plans and procedures to minimize risk to employees.
•Provide back up to the Safety Supervisor
•Assist with the company’s drug and alcohol program
•Responsible for the maintenance of records and submit applicable forms, reports and correspondence to ensure that all applicable health hazards, safety, and transportation recordkeeping requirements are met.
•Ensure compliance with third party safety administrators, i.e. ISNet World
•Provide technical assistance and support to supervisors and employees in their compliance activities
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
•Assist in special projects, as needed.
•Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
PREFERRED
•Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety or applicable field.
•Three or more years of experience as a health and safety professional (teacher, regulator, or industry-related work assignment.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
•Prolonged walking, sitting and standing
•The responsibilities of the Safety Specialist will require visits to company facilities, mine sites, customer offices and other job sites located throughout the United States sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
•Physical activities include normal office work, driving, and climbing on machines.
•Exposed to extreme temperatures, dirt, grease, dust, noise and other elements within the work environment.
•The Safety Specialist will use product literature, reference material, and Company files
•The PC, telephone, fax and other business tools will be used on a daily basis.
•Use of all necessary personal protective equipment
