Job Summary
The Project Controls Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all project activities and costs are kept on schedule and tracked accordingly.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist project manager to develop project scope of work
- Study and understand all relevant project documents pertaining to the preparation of plans and schedules
- Work with all relevant project and discipline personnel to prepare plans and schedules
- Convert scope of work document into logically linked, resourced project schedule
- Prepare realistic, achievable schedules as logical networks and where necessary integrate engineering, procurement and construction schedules.
- Develop progress curves and manpower histograms
- Develop cost curves and cash flow histogram
- Establish cost breakdown structure
- Assist in development of CTR
- Review time-writing and develop weekly staffing reports
- Collect expended man-hours and prepare Earned Value analysis reports
- Gather accurate progress and expended man hours information at relevant time intervals
- Prepare, review and ensure the timely issue of all relevant reports to stakeholders
- Verbally and in writing advise project management and discipline personnel on impacts, contingencies and generally guide the scopes towards the earliest possible finish
- Provide realistic resource forecast data at a project and corporate level
- Maintain realistic future work forecast plans for resource management
- Coordinate with vendors and fabricators invoicing requirements
- Provide input into the budget forecasting process
- Issue weekly and monthly cost reports
- Mentor other, less experienced schedulers
- Train, encourage and provide guidance to schedulers, junior and assistant personnel
- Manage cost discipline to ensure accurate and timely control and forecasting of man-hour budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests are properly assessed and included in the schedules
- Participate in schedule risk analysis as required
- Analyze progress and effects on schedule and advise necessary corrective actions
- Work with accounting on the development and issue of monthly invoices
- Track actual costs and prepare cost forecasts
- Participate in quantitative cost risk analysis
- Participate in project risk analysis
- Requires a High-School Diploma or Equivalent;
- Requires a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in an applicable project controls role performing listed duties;
- Project controls experience in the Oil & Gas industry;
- Requires an excellent working knowledge of project management software, specifically Primavera P6 & Excel.
- Requires the ability to manage multiple projects and determine priorities
- Must have an excellent understanding of the basic principles of project management
- Must have a proven record and experience leading the project controls effort on assigned projects
- Must have a high degree of computer literacy
- Must have experience implementing corporate and contract specific planning procedures
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Power BI and Acumen Fuse are a plus
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations.
- Field duties require outdoor work in a plant or offshore platform atmosphere;
- Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
- Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
- May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
